Understandings & Goals

Enduring Understanding: I want the students to be able to count money, tell time and apply these skills to real life situations.
Goal(s):To increase conceptual, computational and functional math skills.

Questions Answered

Essential questions: 1. Why is it important to know how to count money?  2. Why is it important that you know how to make correct change?  3. What would happen if you didn’t know how to tell time?  4. Why is it important to know how to read a schedule/calendar?
Objectives:  1. To identify the appropriate operation in a story problem.  2. To be able to answer questions related to time.  3. To be able to find the values of combinations of coins and bills.

Assessment

What quiz and test items (e.g. simple content-focused questions that require a single, best answer) will provide evidence of understanding?  I will use traditional tests and quizzes.
What academic prompts (e.g. open-ended questions or problems that require students to think critically and then to prepare a response / product / performance) will provide evidence of understanding? I will present time and money questions orally and on practice sheets.
What performance tasks and projects (e.g. complex challenges that are authentic, mirror the real world and require a performance or product)will you include that will provide evidence of student understanding?  1. The student will count actual money, tell time and read schedules.  2. She will generate graphs to display her findings.
What other evidence (e.g. observations, work samples, dialogues, student self-assessment)of understanding will you collect? Samples of hands-on work and student made graphs.
